New Assistant Chief of Police Rudy Perez

Through over 20 years of being a law enforcement professional and union executive I have demonstrated a history of leading, managing and partnering to achieve the highest standards of a 21st century law enforcement organization. I am skilled in all facets of contemporary law enforcement including community policing and partnerships, constitutional policing, organizational legitimacy, emergency/critical incident management and technology-driven crime reduction. I am a self-motivated person that enjoys creative problem solving and works well under pressure. I am passionate about strong leadership and love inspiring my team.

I have excellent interpersonal skills that have helped effectively and compassionately address some of the most vexing problems facing Law Enforcement and the communities we serve. I have built and maintained meaningful relationships across all spectrum’s of the business and community economic structures, which have included both private/public/non-profit sector partners as well as federal, state and local entities. These collaborations have allowed me to balance stakeholder recommendations with fundamental safety and security principles.

I have worked with the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations (CCLEA) and State of California Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Labor Council and served as the Vice President and President for the Los Angeles Police Officers Association. This provided me valuable experience with internal affairs cases, disciplinary issues, collective bargaining, and human resourcing protocols and procedures.

After news-worthy incidents in places like Ferguson and Chicago, I, along with a couple of others, was brought in through the Department of Justice as a moderator and trainer. My experience with the Threat Assessment Unit and Mental Health Evaluation Team have shown me the value of healthy alliances and how they can be used to offer the public a wider variety of assistance. I’ve coordinated multiple yearly events throughout my career that have created positive community interactions and higher police visibility while helping populations such as students and homeless.

I truly believe in customer service, integrity and working cooperatively among agencies for the betterment of our society. I have a record of leading through times of organizational crisis and complex challenges. I am honored to serve at Golden Valley, Police, Department.
