GV Crime Prevention Fund Honors Student with $2,500 Scholarship

On Thursday, August 26, 2025, we presented a scholarship to a young man who is going into the law enforcement field.

Golden Valley Crime Prevention fund supports Toys for Tots social hour

On Friday, December 13, the crime prevention fund attended the Toys for Tots social hour. The event represented 31 agencies and serving more than 130 officers, CSO, reserves and junior reserves. It was a privilege to provide refreshments for those dedicated individuals.

Scholarships

The GVCPF started a new initiative is 2022 – scholarships for law enforcement related degrees.
The scholarship is intended for students enrolled in a State College, University, Community College, Vocational or Technical Institute. The academic emphasis of the scholarship is coursework in the area of criminal justice, law enforcement and/or community crime prevention.

Safety in the Parks

Safety in the parks was the focus of an event held at Scheid Park, where participants had fun running through water sprayed by the Golden Valley Fire Department’s big cannon and receiving freezies from the Golden Valley Police Department.

We had the honor to attend the celebration and swearing of Chief Bethany Brunswell. Following the swearing in we were able to get the first picture of our Chiefs together, Police Chief Virgil Green and Fire Chief Bethany Brunswell.

Five new Golden Valley police officers were sworn in at last night’s swearing in ceremony at Brookview. The GVPD welcomes new officers David Yang, Mark Bohnen, Jacob Welch, Stacy Lakotas, and John Adams. Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Dawanna Witt was a guest speaker at the event. Thank you to Golden Valley Crime Prevention Fund for hosting the reception following the swearing in ceremony.

Golden Valley Fire Department

Each month our Firefighters work on different skills while on their duty crew shift. This month they are training on donning their protective skills, spotting and flushing hydrants. This is a practice run of what they do when pulling up to a fire. First the Firefighter stretches out the hose, then they use tools to open and flush the hydrant before connecting the supply hose. They do that in case there is anything in the pipe, rocks or debris, that could damage our trucks.

Tuesday night an overflow group of officers, family and friends met with the city council for an exciting Award and Promotion ceremony. The speakers included Chief Virgil Green, Assist. Chief Alice White, and Assist. Chief of Operations Terry Sleavin.
