    Past Recipients

The first scholarship was awarded to Tong Vang from Robbinsdale Cooper High School. Tong was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and his family immigrated to the United States in 2004 in search of a better life.

Tong, an honor student and volleyball coach, grew up in a low-income neighborhood that is plagued by shootings, robbery and carjackings. From this situation came his passion for helping the community to live in safety and peace. He is a volunteer with the Tzu Chi Foundation, an international humanitarian and nongovernmental organization whose mission is to relieve the suffering of people in need. Tong did his part by making dinners and packing hygiene kits for homeless people.

We look forward to seeing Tong get his degree and then work in a position where he can help bring safety and peace to a community.
